How Ruff Tags™ Came to Be & A Giveaway

Contest is closed, thank you to everyone who entered.

Congratulations to the winner, Opie!

Over the years we have accumulated quite the collection of failed dog I.D. tags. Despite the fact that we have three dogs all under three years old, we have somehow managed to go through many many tags. Some were chewed, some were bent, and some just plain broke so we decided to make our own tough tags for dog's who play as rough as ours do.

When we began designing Ruff Tags, the first thing we knew without a doubt was that our tags needed to be made from heavy duty metal that could withstand canine antics without weighing them down. Which is why we turned to aluminum. Aluminum is super strong and yet incredibly lightweight, making it the prefect medium for a dog tag.

The second problem we wanted to solve was the eternal split-ring dilemma. If you've ever used a knife blade and paper clip to pry open a split-ring, you might understand the frustration we speak of. Whoever invented the split-ring, clearly never opened one. Our dogs wear many collars, and we're sure yours do too, which is why we wanted moving your dog's I.D. tags from one collar to another to be seamless and easy. Enter the CLIP! Each Ruff Tag comes with any easy to use clip to quickly attach your new tag to any D-ring you might choose.

We have come to learn that engraved tags eventually rub off and become all but unreadable, therefore rendering them useless. The whole idea of the I.D. tag is to ensure your beloved pup can get home safely should they ever stray. Ruff Tags are deeply stamped by hand to assure you your pet’s information stays intact and helps them find their way home.

Each Ruff Tag is hand made with love and care to create a tag that’s just as unique as your dog.

Snow Day Product Testing

On an ordinary Tuesday we decided to head to the nearest mountain town for a day of snow play. Not one of the five dogs in tow had experienced snow before, so we bundled them all in rebel hoodies and let them go crazy. We're not sure if they had more fun running wild, or if we had more fun watching this snowy situation go down.

The first couple of minutes consisted of a lot of slipping and sliding, but once they got the hang of it, it was optimum entertainment for the humans. Pork Chop, the English Bully of the crew, is perhaps the most hilarious to watch as he always appears to be in his own little glorious bulldog world. His favorite activity was making snow angels, and at one point he succeeded in "sledding" head first down the entire face of the mountain as we watched and cheered.

Diesel and Dakoda, our two black Dobermans, played high speed tag for most of the day. While Deogi, the Vizsla, spent her time mountain climbing and tracking scents. Stella, the red Doberman, was the ever perfect model and stood patiently in the sun as we snapped endless pictures of her beautiful dobe stature.

Rebel Hoodie is Rebel approved: After a day of rough play in the cold snow, these five agreed that the rebel hoodie is officially cleared for use in the snow and cold-weather approved. These cozy hoodies provide comfort and style while keeping each pup super warm. The wide array of sizes offered ensures each dog finds his perfect fit, and the construction allows for easy on-and-off. Because after all, the life of a dog is pretty busy, there's really little time for inconveniences like getting dressed.

Social Style

Diesel is our 9 month old Doberman. Despite his ginormous size, he is considered a puppy which means we are still working on socializing him and getting him used to the great big world. He has proven to be somewhat skeptical of new people and situations so subsequently he is rather shy in public. We, however, are determined to make him love and trust people so we continue to take him with us wherever we go.

Over the Thanksgiving holiday we took him on a 12-hour road trip to visit family and for an energetic little troublemaker, he actually did quite well. We took him shopping in old town where he made lots of new furry friends and met tons of people, and we have to say, we were ever so proud of our brave little buddy. How cute are his new little friends?!

Have you encountered any issues when socializing your dogs? We are finding, just like people, every dog we get has a very different personality than the others. Needless to say we are learning a lot and loving raising this pack of rebels!

**Diesel is wearing the Diesel Collar, size 15" - 17" and a Rebel Tee, size XL.

Save The Pit Bulls

"Loved for who I am, Hated for what I am not."

In honor of Pit Bull Awareness month we drew up this limited edition Pit Bull poster print meant to help rebrand the breed by means of education. These posters were printed in limited quantity, and each one comes numbered and signed for authenticity. Buy a poster and help ban ignorance.

A Whole Lot of Leather

Diesel came with us to help pick out leather for our debut line of Rebel Collars. In specific, he was searching for the perfect feel for his very own Diesel Collar. After spending several hours thumbing through buttery soft cowhide, faux print grain, and some stiff soon-to-be Louis Vuitton grade leather we left feeling inspired and intoxicated with that musky smell of leather.
