Dixie Diaries

Name: Dixie

Age: Estimated 3 years

Breed: The shelter has deemed her a Rottweiler and yellow Labrador mix. She has a beautiful short tan coat, with light blonde Rottweiler/ Doberman markings on her face and chest.

Gender: Female, spayed

Health: She is healthy, happy, and just gorgeous!

Dixie's Story: Dixie was adopted as a puppy with one of her litter mates, where she lived for the first couple of years of her life. The story goes that her and her sister jumped up too much, so their family relinquished both of them to the shelter. Not long after she was adopted again, this time without her sister but a few months later she was spotted up for sale on Craigslist. Animal Friends has a strict no sale policy for their adopted dogs, so her adopter brought her back to Animal Friends where she went straight into foster care. And now, we get to enjoy this lovely little lady until we find her a forever home.

Temperament: Dixie is a sweetheart through and through. She loves people and is good with older kids, as she does jump so little kids are not recommended. She is house trained and sleeps through the night on her bed. One thing is for sure, she is a cuddle bug and very loving.

Location: Southern California. Adopter must live in Canyon Lake, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula, Wildomar, or Menifee for a yard check.

If you are interested in adopting sweet Dixie, please email us at woof@crazyrebels.com to set up a meet and greet.

Pool Party

Yesterday we helped celebrate the grand opening of Country Kennels Dawg Water Park and it was awesome! A water park for dogs, isn't that just about the coolest place ever?! Hello summer time fun. This beautiful dog play haven is situated on rolling hills of astroturf (so no muddy paws) and features a bone shaped pool complete with a diving platform for dock jumping, fountains, and tons of space to run and play.

Excited dogs and their people started lining up before they even opened the gates, and continued to pile in all day long. Hundreds of dogs romped in the water; splashing around, jumping for toys, and playing with new friends. So many awesome dogs and their humans stopped by our Rebel booth to say hi.  We met dozens of dogs big and small, puppies and rescues, and even a sweet deaf pup named Sadie.

The water park is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. for open swim. The park is also available by reservation for private parties and group swim. We can't wait to host our next doggie birthday party here!!

Xena The Warrior Puppy and Her Boy, Jonny

This heartwarming story so clearly demonstrates the resilience of dogs and their incredible capacity to forgive and love freely even after horrible abuse. One such dog named Xena made her journey back to health only to find a boy named Jonny who needed her just as much as she needed him, this is their happily ever after…

We first came across Xena's story back in 2012 and followed her rescue with a hopeful heart, silently cheering for a miraculous recovery. She was brought into Dekalb Animal Services in Georgia in such a horrendous state of neglect she was not expected to make it through the night. Over the next six months, under the loving care of a wonderful foster family, she continued to regain her health, strength, and a renewed love of life and people.

It was an inspirational recovery to say the least, but Xena the Warrior Puppy wasn’t nearly done impressing the world with what she was destined to accomplish.

In the same Georgia vicinity lives Jonny, an eight-year-old boy with autism. For Jonny life was quiet. He was generally soft spoken and preferred to keep to himself and understandably, familiar situations. But that all changed when Jonny met Xena.

Jonny’s mother, rescue dog mom and volunteer, Linda Hickey had been following Xena’s story online. So when it was announced that Xena would make her first public appearance at a local fundraiser, the Hickey family headed to meet her. It was love at first lick for Xena, and likewise for Jonny. With that joyful introduction it was decided, the Hickey’s would give Xena a forever family and home.

Xena is Jonny’s savior, the spark needed to light up his world. Since adopting Xena Jonny has flourished into a talkative, excited, happy-go-lucky boy who just happens to have autism. These two are nearly inseparable, and to see their connection brings tears of happiness to many eyes.

Xena now lives the good life, with her amazing human family and two rescue siblings. In a YouTube video Jonny shares, “I think we make a pretty great team to spread the word.”

We are inspired by you Jonny and Xena! And we are your forever fans, keep being awesome you two!

You can follow their adventures together on Facebook and on their website.
